Agentic AI: Why Good Processes Matter More Than Technology

AI agents promise to autonomously handle complex tasks, prepare decisions, and support entire business processes. However, for Agentic AI to deliver real business value, organizations need more than powerful AI models.

In a recent interview with ELO Digital Office, Dr. Alexander Swienty, Head of Channel Management at Insiders Technologies, discusses the evolution from traditional AI systems to Agentic AI. The conversation focuses on how organizations can successfully integrate AI agents into their existing business processes and IT landscapes.

Unlike traditional AI, an AI agent is not limited to a single, clearly defined task. Instead, it assumes a role with its own responsibilities. For example, an agent can process an entire mixed inbox by classifying documents, routing them to the appropriate workflows, extracting relevant metadata, and validating the quality of the results.

One thing becomes clear: Agentic AI is not a plug-and-play technology. Organizations need a thorough understanding of their processes, data, and system interfaces to prepare for its successful deployment.

“It’s not about covering up poor processes with AI.“

Clean data, clearly defined responsibilities, and transparent decision-making are essential prerequisites. The greater the autonomy of an AI agent, the more important governance, transparency, and human oversight become.

Alexander Swienty therefore compares onboarding an AI agent to onboarding a new employee. Just like a new team member, an AI agent needs clearly defined responsibilities, access to the right information, appropriate tools, and an understanding of the organization’s processes.

The full interview explores where AI agents are already creating measurable efficiency gains, how collaboration between people and AI will evolve, and the capabilities organizations should start building today.
