Agentic AI in Insurance: Two Agents Transforming Operational Reality
Agentic AI is more than just another buzzword in digitalization. It represents a new generation of AI systems that do not merely execute tasks, but independently prepare decisions, set priorities, and flexibly orchestrate processes.
Insiders marked this paradigm shift in November 2025 with a high-level expert dialogue in Berlin, where insurers, researchers, and technology experts discussed at a round table how Agentic AI can realistically shape the next stage of process automation in the insurance industry and where its concrete value for data-driven core processes lies. One key takeaway was clear: Agentic AI is not a distant future technology, but a practical next step that already lays the foundation for productive applications today.
Technology Meets Operational Reality
Insiders consistently focuses on turning cutting-edge technology into real customer value. In private health insurance and in the handling of business transactions, efficiency is determined not only by individual automation steps, but just as much by the quality of preparation. This is where today’s biggest bottlenecks arise: incomplete submissions, heterogeneous documents, time-consuming follow-ups, and specialist departments spending a large share of their time on preparatory work instead of making decisions.
Together with the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), Fraunhofer IESE, RPTU Kaiserslautern, and representatives from the insurance industry, Insiders has therefore launched the development of two AI agents, with a clear focus on two concrete, production-ready insurance use cases. The goal is to establish a robust industry standard for agentic systems in insurance.
Why a Consortium Instead of a Standalone Solution?
Our experience and close collaboration with customers show that artificial intelligence and Agentic AI only unfold their full value when domain expertise, technology, and process understanding work hand in hand. The consortium makes exactly this possible. Insurers, research institutions, and Insiders jointly develop agentic systems that meet real-world requirements, are set up in a regulatory-compliant manner, and can be integrated into existing system landscapes.
Instead of isolated proof-of-concepts, an agentic framework is created based on reusable building blocks that can be gradually productized. For insurers, this means faster time-to-value, reduced integration effort, and early access to a technology that prepares the transition from classical automation to agentic autonomy.
The agents will not address abstract future challenges, but very concrete operational bottlenecks. They structure, review, clarify, and prepare cases so that people can focus on the work where their contribution creates the greatest value. Agentic AI is therefore not an end in itself, but the next logical step for insurers aiming to improve efficiency, quality, and scalability at the same time.
