By intro­du­cing a mobile app for digi­tizing documents, employees benefit from fast and easy trans­mis­sion of their documents, while the company has been able to increase pro­ces­sing effi­ci­ency.

RWE, founded in 1898 as Rheinisch-West­fä­li­sches Elek­tri­zi­täts­werk in Essen, where it is still based today, is one of the four largest energy suppliers in Germany and has an inter­na­tional presence in countries such as the United Kingdom, Belgium, Austria, the Net­her­lands, the USA, and Taiwan. The group sees itself as a pioneer and trend­setter in the green energy world. The company also embodies the spirit of progress intern­ally by seeking to simplify its own processes and make them more effective.

The energy company’s appro­xi­m­ately 14,000 employees in Germany work at a wide variety of locations – from power plants to offshore wind farms. They often do not have regular access to office infra­struc­ture. This dis­tri­bu­tion poses con­siderable chal­lenges for internal com­mu­ni­ca­tion and HR processes. In the past, many employees had to send documents to the HR depart­ment by mail or submit them in person. This resulted in long pro­ces­sing times and high admi­nis­tra­tive costs. Another challenge for RWE was the diversity of its employees‘ com­mu­ni­ca­tion needs. Tech­ni­cians in power plants, service engineers on offshore wind farms, and admi­nis­tra­tive staff have different requi­re­ments when it comes to com­mu­ni­ca­tion and HR processes. The company therefore wanted to offer its employees tailor-made com­mu­ni­ca­tion solutions that meet the specific needs of each employee.

To meet these chal­lenges, RWE opted for the modular mobile app con­s­truc­tion kit from Insiders Tech­no­lo­gies. Insiders‘ AI solutions had already proven them­selves in the group’s central mailroom input manage­ment system. The seamless inte­gra­tion of the app for employees with Insiders‘ existing AI-supported document clas­si­fi­ca­tion and data extra­c­tion system, as well as the sub­se­quent con­nec­tion to the HR system, promised many synergies. Another important factor for RWE was security. Insiders Tech­no­lo­gies‘ extensive expe­ri­ence in handling sensitive data from the health insurance sector, where data security requi­re­ments are par­ti­cu­larly high, created the necessary trust at RWE.
