Insiders Expands E-Prescription Solution for Private Health Insurance to Include ePA Access
Insiders is expanding its “smart E-Prescription” module from the smart Mobile toolkit with a new ePA add-on for private health insurance (PKV). This enables private health insurance companies to offer their policyholders not only the convenient use and billing of e-prescriptions but also easy access to the electronic patient record (ePA).
The ePA and e-prescriptions promise policyholders a connected, paperless healthcare system. In practice, however, the process often stalls right from the start. Unlike in the statutory health insurance system (GKV), where the insurance card is sufficient, privately insured individuals must set up an authenticator app—and, depending on their insurance plan, additional applications—before they can use e-prescriptions and ePA for the first time. As a result, many give up before they can experience the actual benefits.
This is exactly where Insiders Technologies comes in, moving the setup process directly into the insurance app that policyholders are already familiar with. Step-by-step guides walk users through the necessary setup, while videos and tutorials provide clear instructions. This turns a technical hurdle into a guided introduction.
E-prescriptions and ePA integrate seamlessly into familiar workflows
Once set up, the e-prescription is integrated into the established billing process via the smart e-prescription module. To do this, the e-prescription and billing document are securely imported with a single click from the respective e-prescription application and fed into the document submission system. As with all other documents, insured individuals also receive feedback on the processing status and outcome for e-prescriptions.
The new ePA add-on supplements the existing module with information and features related to the electronic patient record. Insured individuals receive instructions on how to use the ePA in the app and can jump directly to the insurance-specific front end of the electronic patient.
This is made possible by the smart Mobile Modular System from Insiders Technologies. It enables private health insurers to provide their policyholders with an app featuring their own branding. Policyholders are already using these apps to view policies, submit receipts, or update their personal information. E-prescriptions and ePA are now being added as additional features and integrate seamlessly into this familiar environment.
Digitization in healthcare requires easy access
Just over a third of private health insurers in Germany already use the smart Mobile modular platform to efficiently provide a customized app for their. Seven providers have the smart E-Prescription module in active use, thereby enabling their policyholders to easily use e-prescriptions. Five of them are currently also rolling out the new ePA add-on.
Private health insurance companies using the smart Mobile modular system from Insiders Technologies include, among others, Alte Oldenburger, Concordia Versicherungen, Münchener Verein, Versicherer im Raum der Kirchen (VRK), and VGH Versicherungen.
“A digital health offering only delivers its greatest benefit when policyholders can start using it without any hurdles,” explains Dr. Armin Stahl, Head of the E-Health and Mobile Sales Unit at Insiders Technologies. “The app has become an indispensable part of private health insurance providers’ service offerings. It offers policyholders a convenient way to connect with their insurer, reduces costs through an electronic inbox and a high proportion of self-serviceservice component, while at the same time improving service quality. With the integration of e-prescriptions and ePA, insurance companies are consistently expanding their digital services and making it easier for their policyholders to access modern healthcare applications.“
