A conference organized by the Leipzig Insurance Forums focuses on back-office processing and workflow support ininsurance. There, the project partners will jointly present on the automatic assignment of incoming mail to the relevant line of business.

Together with our client Signal Iduna, we are presenting at the conference “Automated Data Processing & Workflow Support in Insurance” on the automated recognition of insurance lines using artificial intelligence.

Under the title “Automated Line of Business Recognition in Signal Iduna’s Input Management Using AI,” Jens Clasen, Product Owner of smart FIX at Signal Iduna, and Christian Bokelmann, authorized signatory and Head of Key Account Management at Insiders Technologies, will present a joint project focused on the pre-sorting of incoming documents—letters, faxes, and emails—at the insurance group. Until now, these documents had been manually sorted into the various insurance lines—27 in total—and then processed by the input management team. The resulting high workload was to be significantly reduced through increased automation of this process.

To this end, as part of the implementation of smart FIX, Insiders’ solution for inbound mail processing, Signal Iduna first trained an automated system to recognize insurance lines of business as a first step. The latest deep learning technologies automatically identify—regardless of the input channel— format, and structure, and assign the input document to a specific line of business. After just a short training phase, the new solution was able to correctly assign more than three-quarters of the documents without any manual effort. With this automation, Signal Iduna was able to drastically reduce the manual effort required for line-of-business identification while simultaneously significantly increasing processing speedsignificantly.

“Insurance companies receive a flood of documents every day through a wide variety of communication channels,”

explains Christian Bokelmann. “Our joint project with Signal Iduna shows just how effective the automatic identification of insurance lines and the pre-sorting of incoming documents can be on their own—and how much time and effort this saves. I’m really looking forward to presenting this project together with Jens Clasen at the conference.”

The digital event organized by Versicherungsforen Leipzig GmbH, a partner network comprising more than 250 companies in the insurance industry, primary insurers and reinsurers, as well as software and consulting firms in the insurance industry, will explore the technical possibilities and professional prerequisites for fully and semi-automated processes on February 8 and 9, 2022. It is aimed at specialists and managers from the IT departments of insurance companies, particularly in the areas of process management, enterprise architecture, process automation, operational organization, IT architecture, and requirements management.

The presentation by Signal Iduna and Insiders Technologies will take place virtually on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, from 2:10 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
