    Baloise

Baloise is a European insurance group headquartered in Basel with subsidiaries in Belgium, Germany, and Luxembourg. For more than 160 years, the company has been providing its customers with peace of mind when it comes to financial matters. Baloise currently employs approximately 8,000 people.

Since 2010, Baloise has been using Insiders Technologies’ AI solutions for automation in input management. As part of a comprehensive multi-cloud strategy, the company fully migrated all its tenant environments to the Insiders Cloud, thereby benefiting from faster innovation, lower operational costs, and a significantly higher speed of implementation for new business requirements.

"The potential of Insiders' AI OvAItion—especially given its ability to integrate LLMs—is enormous. We currently have a to-do list of about 50 use cases that we want to automate and optimize with AI. The Insiders Cloud and the No-Code-GenerAItor make it particularly easy for us to implement these."

    Project Overview

Complete Cloud Migration in 18 Months

Within approximately 18 months, all six clients of the input management solution were gradually migrated to Insiders Cloud Services. Since spring 2023, the input management system has been operating at full capacity exclusively with cloud services.

    Real-time Processing with Zero-Error Tolerance

With event-driven control and cloud connectivity, incoming documents—regardless of the channel—are available in the system within minutes, with all details processed. At the same time, a zero-error policy applies: documents must be correctly assigned and processed, no ifs, ands, or buts.

3 to 4 times faster implementation speed

By decoupling operations from further development and clearly defining core competencies, requirements can be implemented significantly faster. Instead of working on just one use case at a time, three to four use cases are now implemented simultaneously.

    What was the
    initial situation?

    • Same-day processing of all incoming documents is required—ideally in real time, immediately upon receipt
    • Zero-error tolerance in the insurance business: correct assignment and precise data extraction are essential
    • Multi-channel: in addition to paper and email, chat, apps, and portals are also used as intake channels
    • Very broad spectrum of document classes (more than 250) and use cases—both business-specific and internal (including incoming mail, line-of-business processes, HR documents, and incoming invoices)
    • High pressure to implement (“Need for Speed”): many requests from business units for new use cases

    Why the decision
    Insiders?

    • A Long Track Record of Success: Insiders solutions have been used since 2010 as core components of AI-based automation
    • Insiders Cloud always provides the latest versions and faster access to innovations—without time-consuming internal update or migration projects
    • Clear division of responsibilities: OmnIA/OvAItion/Invoice Management handled by Insiders, integration and domain expertise by Baloise
    • No-Code GenerAItor enables self-service creation of AI services by business units

    How was the solution implemented?

    • Step-by-step migration of all six clients to Insider’s Cloud Services within approximately 18 months
    • Implementation of a middle layer to decouple internal systems as a prerequisite for integrating cloud services
    • Event-driven control for real-time processing: Claims reports are available in the system within minutes, regardless of the channel
    • Strong focus on data security: Data is always encrypted; decryption occurs only for direct processing; processing results are automatically deleted after transmission
    • Key Management: T-Systems as the key management provider; ownership of the decryption keys rests exclusively with Baloise; extensive security assessments
    • Special contractual requirements due to data transmission from Switzerland to Germany

    How can success
    be measured?

    • Input management has been fully operational since spring 2023, using exclusively Insiders Cloud Services
    • Approximately 140,000 documents are processed each month, some with up to 1,000 pages per document
    • More than 250 document classes are reliably recognized and processed
    • 3 to 4 times faster implementation of requirements
    • Self-service model launched: Business units implement use cases themselves using no-code tools; the to-do list includes approximately 50 AI use cases

    What are the next steps?

    • Expansion of the self-service model for new use cases by business units (No-Code GenerAItor)
    • Implementation of additional AI use cases based on a to-do list of approximately 50 use cases
    • Further expansion of LLM-based automations via OvAItion
